Project Context

Fabecafe In Lepakshi

ISDI Parsons- Contemporary Narratives (Elective Class)

Junior Year Feb, 2020 (10 Weeks)

Project Mentor - Mr. Ram

The idea behind this project was to take inspiration from existing Indian Folk Art and create my own style & spatial graphics illustrations for a commercial space

Design Illustration Theme

As said there is its "beauty in simplicity", These simple illustrations are inspired by the Kalamkari style of Indian Folk art. These illustrations revolve around the forgettable yet the most important people of the country: The farmers and what's better than knowing that the food that you are eating is farm fresh. Keeping in mind the Fabcafe brand philosophy the illustrations throws light on the process of where the little sapling is sown into the soil right till the end farm-fresh organic food served right in front of you.

Project

The Brand that I decided to choose was FabCafe a sub brand of FabIndia and the art style for inspirations was Kalamkari. These illustrations were designed keeping in mind the visual language & style of FabCafe and FabIndia to suit the overall brand design.

MoodBoard

I worked on gathering reference styles for the color scheme and to get the entire look and feel of the parent brand Fabindia and the visual styles of Indian art. After gathering several references I began taking inspiration from these images and came up with my own style with the Indian touch.

Ilustration Style

While keeping the India traditional Kalamkari art style to it, I wanted to add my own illustration style touch to it. I began trying out different styles keeping in mind how they would look when painted on walls and viewed from distance. From the four styles shown below, I ended up choosing the last style of illustration for the art.

Color Palette

#D8A24C

#F5EAD5

#60412B

My mood board, the original art style and the brand were the main influencing factors while deciding the colour scheme. Wanted to keep it natural and simple at the same time.

Spatial Illustrations

The central idea behind these illustrations was to take the viewers through the organic process of the fresh and natural food that is being served to them and trace back the entire journey.

Keeping it simple yet bringing out the natural essence of the brand's culture was my key motive.

FabCafe
Now Open in
Lepakshi !

The Brand extension that I conceptualized as part of my academic project was for a cafe chain, while keeping the entire ambience in mind, I went on to design the cutlery too.
